The role of civil society organizations in protecting human rights in Iraq

Abstract

The relationship between civil society and human rights is one of the most organic relationships. The basic concept of civil society is that it is an intermediary level between the state and individuals, organizing them and expressing their interests, which are essentially rights, whatever their nature, vis-à-vis the state. This is why civil society is one of the basic institutions in which human rights issues occupy an important position, especially if the vision expands to include all rights, whether civil, political, economic, social, or cultural, as well as collective rights. The most common idea, which must be noted and warned against, is to limit civil society concerned with human rights to human rights organizations specifically, which constitutes a denial of a major current within civil society concerned with the issue and dealing with it from different angles
