Concepts and theories on national identity

National identity stands always as a very important and sensitive issue since it is closely linked to national security and territorial unity of all nations and states. Even in the era of globalization where people are supposed to be only economic actors without paying attention to their cultural, ethnic and religious personality, the issue of national identity is still always alive and influential in all communities. So the objective of this paper is to put some light on the conceptual and theoretical framework of national identity. The paper is divided into two main parts, the first one deals with the concepts such as identity and nationalism. The second part tackles the theories of national identity
