The awareness of the people of Gabes about the phenomenon of industrial pollution, and their representations of the environmental situation in the region.

Abstract

In this report, we have worked on the social assimilations of industrial pollution phenomenon in the region of Gabes in the Republic of Tunisia, and how Gabesian inhabitants have understood it in addition to their high level of awareness about the environmental issue. Also, we dealt with the struggle since the seventies of last century between the Gabesian countryman who wants to enjoy living in a safe environment and a favourable healthy atmosphere from the first side and those who have their interests and invests in industrial field. Then we concluded the results; A big number of count ymen in Bouchemma, Chat Essalem and Ghannouch localities, specially the activists in the environmental field have opponent attitudes which reach the struggle level, which lead them to organize a protest movement against chemical factory. Besides the rates of jobless and poverty which increased. Especially with the lack of contribution of the industrial zone in development. And not to reduce the phenomenon of unemployment that has worsened. We noticed also, the lack of any role from politicians and institutions to diminish pollution level
