Effect of Administration Divisions on Tribal Conflicts in Darfur (Case Study of South Darfur State)

Abstract

The aim of the study isto examine to what extent administrative divisions have contributed on tribal conflicts in Darfur region with especial refernce on South Darfur State. The main assumption of the study is the absence of real and objective criterias for establishment and demarcation of borders between states, localities and administrative units caused to occurrence and continuation of ethnic and tribal conflicts.The study adopted descriptive method to display comprehensive resemblance administrative divisions on tribal conflicts in study area. The main instruments used for data collection were interviews, participant observation and focal group discussion. The study revealed that non consideration of real and objective criteria in administrative divisions led to arising and expansion of tribal and ethnic conflicts. In addition to making political decisions whiuch have divided the region to states without consideration of political, social and economics status of the region, as well as South Darfur State has ethno-tribal privacy. The study recommended for significance consideration of real and objective critterias for establishment or restructuring the states, localities and administrative units, these criteria’s includes population density, Resources and geographical area among others which can reduce tribal tensions. Also adoption of governing system grants true paeticipation and redistribution of resources and power and ending of historical inequity in the region
