Tour Guiding in Fes city: Structural Challenges and Prospects

Abstract

The profession of tour guiding serves to manage and organize tours in a methodological and effective way. Tour guides are charged of providing these services. They give different types of help to tourists, such as accompaniment and protection since their arrival till the departure. Besides, tour guides provide tourists with a lot of explanations and informations. Because of these and other reasons, it can be obvious to the researcher in the sector of geographical tourism that the profession of tour guiding is of high importance as part of the services provided to tourists. In this context, tour guides have sensitive professional roles which are undeniable. They can be seen as complementary to the other activities in touristic structures which contribute in the improvement of this sector. As an example, it is enough to know that tour guides are the ones who take charge of managing the various tours accomplished along with the accompaniment of tourists, and this can be eventually results in either positive or negative reactions according to the work of tour guides and their communication with the visitors. This is what can help tourists cope with the various aspects of cultural and social life that are related to the touristic space. Among the attractive places that tour guides commercialize, we find the city of Fes as it is considered as a cultural angle for Morocco, and which profit somehow from the profession of tour guiding to commercialize its cultural local heritage which has been known worldwide for a long time. This is why, the main aim of this article is to study the professional reality of tour guides in Fes city as one the oldest cities in the world which has been practicing this profession
