Electoral Systems in Iraq After 2003- An Analytical Study

After 2003, Iraq's electoral systems witnessed significant and important developments. The proportional representation system was adopted in parliamentary elections, allowing for broader representation of various political parties, including smaller parties that previously had little chance in the electoral systems. This system aims to achieve fairness in the distribution of parliamentary seats based on the percentage of votes each party receives, enhancing the representation of different social and political groups in parliament. Decisions related to electoral systems were influenced by the complex political, social, and historical circumstances that Iraq experienced, leading to continuous changes in how elections are organized to ensure the highest level of transparency and integrity. These changes included improvements in electoral procedures, increased oversight of the electoral process, and strengthening the role of independent institutions in supervising elections to prevent manipulation of results
