Challenges that Faces Women Working in the Private Sector

This study aimed to identify the challenges that faces Saudi woman working in shopping centers. The objectives of the study are following on aspects: Features of woman working in shopping centers, finding out the most significant economic and social challenges facing the woman. In addition, the study aimed to present certain suggestions to overcome the challenges she faces. In order to achieve the study objectives, the study adopted the analytical descriptive method. A questionnaire was designed and applied on a (400) female laborer sample was selected randomly from (8) shopping centers in Jeddah. The study concluded the following findings: the age of more than half of the sample varies from (20 to 29) years. The majorities of them are not married and have secondary education certificate. They are paid salaries between (2500 to 4500) SAR. The study showed that the majority of the sample are working as a retail salesperson and sales accountants with job experience less than one year. In addition, they belong to families with low economic income. The findings showed that women face sometimes some social challenges including the negative view and non-acceptance by individuals of the community to their work due to negative traditions and customs also they are suffering from the struggle as a result of the conflict role between work requirements and family tasks. In addition, weakness of social relations with relatives and friends because of being busy with work. Moreover, the findings showed that the most significant economic challenges facing female workers sometimes are the low salaries, absence of job security in view of lack to pension salary. With regard to work conditions, the findings showed severe lack of rest rooms and nurseries for their children in the work place. Accordingly, the study concluded certain recommendations including: improving the conditions of woman work in shopping centers, providing training opportunities suiting work in shopping centers so as to achieve cognitive development for workers and enable them to meet the requirements of work.
