Do we possess an adequate understanding of mental illness within the framework of Moroccan society? This critical review intends to draw attention to the feasibility of addressing the discourse on illness and mental well-being in Moroccan society from a sociological and anthropological perspective. We undertake this endeavor by critically reevaluating existing literature on mental illness within the Moroccan social context. Such an analysis allows us to attain a heightened level of comprehension regarding the theme of mental illness, as it takes into account the entire body of knowledge available on the subject and, specifically, the unique Moroccan social milieu. We aim to establish a scholarly dialogue that integrates diverse dimensions of the sociological-anthropological approach. We propose to unveil dimensions that facilitate a comprehensive understanding of mental illness across multiple strata. We commence with an examination of discursive structures and their capacity to shape social behaviors concerning mental illness. Subsequently, we delve into the social dynamics and implications that mental illness engenders. This analytical journey culminates in an exploration of both individual and collective experiences in dealing with psychological distress. Throughout this process, we remain cognizant of the intricate challenges entailed in the Moroccan sociocultural context, as well as the underlying societal norms that collectively influence the Moroccan consciousness
