Abstract

The Medina of Fez is the oldest Medina of Morocco, it is part of the Moroccan historic cities classified as World Heritage by UNESCO. The tourist frequentation of Fez remains below its heritage value, although the UNESCO label is a factor of touristic attractiveness, in the sense that many works show that the inscription of a site in the world heritage list functions as a mark of recognition, which generates tourist flows. Through fieldwork, we will show that the inscription of Fez on the UNESCO list does not necessarily have an effect on its touristic attractiveness
