Abstract

Epilepsy is defined as a brain disorder characterized by a constant predisposition to the generation of epileptic seizures, caused by the excessive release of electrical charges. Epilepsy is one of the first diseases known to man, since the history of literature about it is dating back more than 4000 years. Epilepsy causes have been explained as scientific causes associated with the brain, and other superstitious ones, represented by magic, astrology, madness, and evil spirits. Up to now, the effect of myth on the psyche of a person affected by epilepsy is still prominent, for an epileptic patient is often accompanied by feelings of fear, anxiety, stigma, and social exclusion, which are psychological and social consequences that have become associated with epilepsy patients and their families
