Analytical study of economic, social and cultural conditions for street children in Ibb City

Abstract

This study aimed at identifying the reality of phenomenon of street children in Ibb City and its reasons and risks on children. The study depended on the analysis descriptive method. The sample of the study consisted of (40) children; (34) males, and (6) females, their ages ranging from (9-15) years. To achieve the aims of the study, the researcher used apersonal Interview questionnaire (preparing: the researcher).The results of the study indicated that the most important causes leading to the phenomenon of street children: poverty, low standard of living, unemployment, the leakage from education, deprivation of parents, weakness of family control on children, divorce and family disintegration, the tense family atmospheres and child labor. The results also indicated that street childrenlive in very difficult economic, social, and cultural conditions; They belong to poor and large families, practice marginal business for long hours, in hazardous places for their health and life, and live a family atmospheres charged with tensions and quarrels between parents, in an inappropriate residential situations and lacks many necessary requirements for living, as their educational level is very low. The results showed that street children were subjected to many health and psychological risk; such asquarrels with others, and attack them by adults, violence and exploitation in all its forms, sexual harassment, traffic accidents, and exercise serious works which do not suit their energies and abilities, friction with bad comrades, and exercise begging, stealing and other deviant behaviors
