The geographic knowledge in Morocco and the question of identity
Paths of awareness of the importance of the space and social issues
Abstract
: The topic of this paper addresses the problematic transformations of the
geographical knowledge in Morocco in the context of its aspiration to express its
national identity, along with the changes of the scientific discourse expressing that
during the century. Firstly by adopting analytical and historical approach to the
geographical discourse accomplished during this period, and secondly by criticising
the theoretical frameworks and the practical tools of geographers’ contribution in the
projects constructing the territory.The analysis presented in this paper aims at finding
answers to the following questions:
In whose favour was this knowledge founded in Morocco?
-What are the most important transformations of the history of geographical knowledge in
Morocco?
What are the most important transformations of this knowledge in terms of identity and
subject matter?
What are the limits of the contribution of this knowledge in the development of the territory
and the realization of a decent life for its inhabitants?
